Explore Riverside, CA Neighborhoods.

Riverside is a wonderful community with excellent schools and neighborhoods.  Learn about our award-winning city, first-rate schools from pre-school to higher education and vibrant neighborhoods.
Riverside is also home to the Parent Navel Orange Tree, propagated from one of the two original trees from a monastery in Brazil and planted in 1873... All navel orange trees stem from this tree or from its offspring. There is also the California Citrus Museum, chronicling the history of the Citrus Industry in California, and especially Riverside.

You have to check out the Mission Inn. Even if you don't stay there, just wandering around it is amazing. From spring to fall, Riverside Wednesday Nights has shopping, food, a farmers' market, and rides for the kids, all happening in the Main Street Mall next to the Mission Inn. Downtown Riverside has several museums (my kids' favorite is the Science Museum) and many other interesting sights.

I moved to Riverside in 1992 from Santa Ana, Ca. I have since learned to love this place. You are still close to the beach...the mountains...the desert...whatever you are in the mood for the I.E. has got it!

Information about the City of Riverside

The rapidly growing City of Riverside currently ranks as the 12th largest city in California, 6th in Southern California, and is the largest city in one of the fastest growing regions in the United States

It is home to four internationally recognized universities and colleges which support an estimated 50,000 students. The University of California, Riverside, California Baptist University, La Sierra University, and Riverside Community College, offer specialized training, research partnerships, and a high-technology environment to support emerging and innovative companies.

An important part of what makes Riverside a special place to live is its abundance of historic resources. Preservation of these resources fosters civic and neighborhood pride and forms the basis for identifying and maintaining community character. With this understanding, the City of Riverside has developed a historic preservation program which is among the most active and well-respected in the state of California

As an important financial and professional center, Riverside offers the support of numerous legal, accounting, brokerage, architectural, engineering, and technology firms as well as banking institutions. It is also the county seat for the fastest growing county in California

Riverside’s Park, Recreation and Community Services Department provides extensive youth programs including classes in educational fundamental and computer skills plus recreational offerings such as karate, scuba, and ice-skating.

Residents enjoy a wide variety of quality of life amenities such as ballet, symphony, art, museums, theater, fine dining, and shopping that includes everything from charming downtown shops and boutiques, the newly remodeled Riverside Plaza to the bustling Galleria at Tyler regional shopping center.

As a mature and growing community, Riverside has devoted an increasing amount of community resources to education, parks, and law enforcement

A City of Parks & Recreation

The City of Riverside has 44 parks covering a total 2,7014 acres, allowing one acre of parkland for each 108 residents. Eight new parks are currently under construction as a part of the Riverside Renaissance Program to create and additional 235 acres of recreational space.

The City’s parks encompass wilderness areas, the UCR Botanical Gardens, the California Citrus State Historical Park, beautiful Fairmount Park with its large central lake, plus many neighborhood parks with extensive facilities for individual and team sports, as well as family outings

Young people have access to a wide range of age group competitive sports including football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and tennis.

Playing on the nostalgia for the state's Spanish heritage and the romanticized images of the missions and the Indians portrayed by Helen Hunt Jackson in her novels, Miller, Matthew Gage, the Sunkist Cooperative, the Santa Fe Railroad and other city boosters worked together to market Riverside as a Spanish Mediterranean Mecca. Riverside's climate and landscapes continue to evoke this Mediterranean paradise. There is a strong community support for historic preservation for a city that reveres its past and has built on that firm foundation.
